Ancient Egypt
Giza Pyramids, Pharaohs, Scarabs and Sphinx
My visit to the Tutankhamun - Immersive Experience at the Utopia showroom in Munich, late 2024, sparked a renewed fascination with Ancient Egypt and reminded me of my trip to the Giza Site, just outside of Cairo, in June 2002. I still remember being fascinated by the elegance of the 4,500 year old pyramids and the majestic and enigmatic Sphinx standing in front of them (more in my book "Mint Tea to Maori Tattoo!" ISBN9780755214747).
This inspired me to create a captivating series of water colour and gold leaf artworks, weaving together the iconic symbols of pharaohs, pyramids, the Sphinx, and scarabs in a unique and harmonious way.
In ancient Egypt, the Scarab Beetle was a highly significant symbolic representation of the divine manifestation of the morning sun. The Egyptian god Khepri was believed to roll the sun across the sky each day at daybreak.
